American Wire Gague :-)

Someone said they used a SCSI ribbon cable for theirs which sounded like a good idea.

I have done this before but is is easier to keep the wires neat with single conductor wire.
22 AWG will do the job nicely but you safely go as small as 28 AWG....the higher the number the smaller the wire.
