I agree that it doesn't look that great, but if you think about it a little differently it starts to make sense. For example, my MAME box isn't just going to be for mame. It'll also be a great box for playing NES/GMB/SNES/SMS/Genesis/PSX/N64 games web-browsing or to be used as kiosk-like device for friends who happen to be over. Not all of these things would work too well with a standard arcade monitor. Perhaps what I'm building is more of an all-around box...
