Are you talking about on a arcade monitor?
It works on a PC monitor but not on an arcade monitor. At least thats what I was told. I am using the -monitor arcade switches and 16-bit will not work unless i use 640x480 mode.

: : Actually I have this problem too... I am using ArcadeOS as my frontend with MAME. It is the 16 bit color games that are a problem. I talked to Brian Lewis (autor of arcadeOS)about this and he said that on the arcade monitor 16-bit is only supported in 640x480 res. So either try it in 640x480 mode or try changing it to 8-bit and see if that helps.

: I'm not sure that's the prob because earlier versions of mame (prior to the -monitor arcade command) run 16-bit colour games fine. I've tried and tested it with mame 0.35, works just fine.
