This one took me a couple of dis/re-assembles myself. The actuator should be the second-to-last thing from the bottom put in (even though the stick is normally upside-down when you're working on it, I'm assuming that the stick is facing up like it normally would be).
If you want it to be an 8-way stick, then make sure that the "fatter" end of the actuator is facing up - that is, make sure that the fatter end is the end that would be touching the switches. Make sense?
Oh yeah, the very bottom piece is that little metal C-clamp that locks the actuator into place. Be careful when removing it, because it has a real knack for flying across the room.
