: : Play with the h-hold knob a little bit, I had the same problem on my POW.
: I would go along with that! If that does not cure it what signal is being fed into the monitor? Is it the original board or a PC? If a PC then the line scan freq may be out of spec for the monitor which means experimenting with settings in the emulation. Another cause is if the levels of the signal are wrong for the monitor. That's not easy to diagnose unfortnately.
: As for playing with the yoke, this does'nt sound like a convergence problem! The yokes on all but very old tubes are factory set and should not be touched. The convergence rings are also factory set but may need tweaking after many years especially if the cabinet has been bounced, but only as a last resort! It is certain that if they are adjusted unnecessarily it will be almost impossible to get the picture back clean again.

I fully refocused the yoke and set up the convergence/colour purity on my monitor (yes, Its an old 19" Toei in a phoenix cab), without much difficulty. While the picture was OK before, it was stellar afterwards. On top of that, I was able to fully utilize the full 19" when there was some 'bordering' that was occuring before, simply by some basic cathode refocussing.

I agree with you that the H and V timings in specific resolutions should be played with first (its easiest to do). Failing that, however, moving the yoke around is actually a fairly easy process, with the fact that the monitor needs to be on during the process being the only area that caused me any concern. I was forced into doing this because, although mounted horizontally, the yoke had been rotated 90 degrees (essentially, vertical display in a horizontal monitor).

I think that the resolution is a yoke related one if the H timings and other 'standard' adjustments fail to resolve the problem. The convergence/color purity setup is clearly not the problem, but just often a necessity to recalibrate after adjusting the yoke.
