I would go along with that! If that does not cure it what signal is being fed into the monitor? Is it the original board or a PC? If a PC then the line scan freq may be out of spec for the monitor which means experimenting with settings in the emulation. Another cause is if the levels of the signal are wrong for the monitor. That's not easy to diagnose unfortnately.
As for playing with the yoke, this does'nt sound like a convergence problem! The yokes on all but very old tubes are factory set and should not be touched. The convergence rings are also factory set but may need tweaking after many years especially if the cabinet has been bounced, but only as a last resort! It is certain that if they are adjusted unnecessarily it will be almost impossible to get the picture back clean again.
