Well, I have narrowed it down to this. If I boot up DOS and try MAME or ARCADEOS, my soundcard does not work. If I then go into my directory (c:\SB16) and use the SB program ("diagnose.exe")the sound then works. If I then reboot, sound does not work. I am a former DOS guy, so I am used to looking at the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and can see the SoundBlaster being intialize there (SET BLASTER I5 H5 yadda yadda yadda) and the numbers in my Autoexec file match the numbers reported from the diagnose program.
To make it more complicated, Wofenstien3D (which I put on to test the sound in dos) works all the time.
I am really at a loss and am considering buying a new sound card. I do not think it has anything to do with mame or ARCADEOS. Thanks for any help here.
John

: Im using a SB16 ISA in true mode DOS with no problems, please elaborate on your problem and Ill see if I can help.

: : Well,
: : My dos troubles seem to be linked to my SB16. It has to be re-initialized each time I turn the CP on in order to work. Would someone running ARCADEOS in DOS with DOS MAME please reccommend a DOS based sound card that they use. I would like to stay ISA.
: : Thanks
