: I was wondering... if I buy two generic 8 button gamepads and a y-splitter cable, can get get all the buttons on both pads to work?

nope, an 8 button pad takes all of the inputs

: The flipper/rudder switches on my compusa joy (about $5) are actually connected to the second X and Y axes.

: I think without software only the X and Y axes and two buttons on each pad work, but I'm not sure...

with or without software you're limited to that.

: Is there free software I can download that will let all the buttons on two generic 8 button (or 4 button)pads work?

Nope.

:I know kensington/gravis has their GRIP software available for download at the site. Will that work with non-gravis pads?

Gravis pads have special hardware inside them to make more work.

: Thanks.
: BTW, how do I switch between 4 and 8 way on a Happ Super joystick? I know this has been asked before but since I'm already posting... I know it involves flipping that actuator over, but should the wider side be up or down for 8 way?

bigger down to put it in 4 way, smaller down for 8 way.

: Have a nice day :)
