I have built the splitter usung stephans design and it works nicely.
Be sure to TEST IT before you plug it into your brand spanking new P3 as they have a nasty habit of destroying motherboards if built incorrectly (getting the 5v and data lines crossed for example).
But if you are reasonably careful and competant when you put it together there should be no trouble.
The most expensive part of the whole thing is some experimental board to put it together on :-)
you may also want to check the avilibility of the required IC before you start, I had to send away for mine.
