a U3100 question

I have had my arcade machine pretty much done for quite a while now. I doubt anyone remembers (I don't post often, and I don't have a page or anything), but I have an iMac running MAME on a U3100 (from outside my machine of course). It has worked beautifully. I have recently however considered getting a new computer monitor. The thing is, they are really expensive (expecially since I spent so much on the U3100). Also i am moving into a new place, and may not have room for my arcade cab. I thought, maybe I should build a sort of coctail hybrid so I could use the U3100 as my main monitor. I could keep the old cab to reasemble once I get a bigger place. I have it pretty much planned, but I was wondering if anyone else has used the U3100 as there main monitor. I use it in 640x480 at 60Hz now. It looks good, but text is a little blured and when you get really close to the monitor (2 or 3 inches away) the screen gets all wavy. Is there a better resolution to run it in? Can I fix the waviness? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
