How about placing at least on control panel on the longer, horizontal side of the monitor? You could still play vertical games by placing one or two control panels on the shorter side(s). Then you can use it as both a vertical and horizontal monitor w/out physically rotating the screen. This would be my plan when building my cocktail cab in the future--mine would have control panels on all four sides so I could have more types of controllers.
