I ran into the same problem with the cabinet I was making, although it was an upright. Personally, most of the games I like are vertical (PacMan, Galaga, Space Invaders, Sinistar...) so I opted for that. But then I wanted to play my other favorites (Defender, Asteroids, Berzerk...) so what I ended up doing was (eventually) building *another* cabinet for horizontal games. I know this may or may not be an option for you, but it was the only way I know of to keep things simple (not building a rotatable monitor, which for me was out of the question).
This was just one person's solution. IMHO, I think you should just make that one a vertical games cabinet. I hope I helped :)
