How do you get that stuff off a control panel

I am hooked! I just began to gut my old Gyrus cabinet (also Donkey Kong also Magic Sword, IMHO unrestorable) and am working on the control panel.

Sorry if I am a common question, but how do you remover aged gooey vinyl backed crap from an old control panel? Do they make stuff that will take it off more easily?

Uggh! What a mess. Anyway, my goal is to make a very simple 1 4way joystick and two buttons mame box that plays nothing but maze and shooter verticle games.

I'm still working on a name!
