: I am a designer and work for a company that does a lot of printing on different material, so I have been able to re-do my control panel and 3 different marquees. I don't think it is necessary to use any real special material for your control panel, unless you absolutely need the exact "real deal". I had my panel design printed on a special Kodak gloss stock w/a HP industrial size printer(you know, the reallong, skinny printers).
: I then had it laminated w/ a gloss surface to protect the artwork. The backside of this Kodak paper has an adhesive to it. I actually just left the backing on my printed panel, so if I wanted to change it, would be a snap. As far as using your inkjet, the image would probably have to be "peiced" together, which doesn't really look that good. Also, inks don't work well w/ every surface or type of paper(some times it smears, or the colors are "washed" out and not vibrant, and sometimes the ink runs.) If you want it done right, go to a place like Kinko's or any other smaller shop. Actually, I have been debating on wether or not to offer a service to design and print things like this for a reasonable cost. So far I have done a control panel, 3 or 4 marquees, and a set of sideart. I could put up pics if anyone was interested. As far as design skills go, check out www.arcadeheaven.com I redid Guru's logo. That's just a small sample. Hope some of this long windedness has helped you out.
