On my trackball which is not a Happs but is supposed to have the same pinouts, the middle 2 pins are not 5v and ground. Are you sure about this? Maybe you could mail me.
Mine are Pin1 = 5v pin2= dir pin3 = clk pin4 = gnd.
BTW there is no left or right as it depends on which way up you mount the trackball!
