I can not confirm this, but I have read that the problem of left=right & right=left can be fixed by swapping the 2 inputs from the encoder on the twystygrip. The quad encoder used by a mouse/twystygrip/spinner is simply 2 square waves that lead eachother by 90 degrees - depending on the direction. Swapping the A & B output of the encoder should fix it.

ALSO! I'm building a spinner too. My partslist is almost complete and I can share it when its complete - all parts are stock parts at Happs - total cost is aroud $30. Some wiring required and you will need a KE-72.
