This going to sound *completely* backwards, but it's true:
Your monitor on your PC has a higher res, higher refresh rate, and most importantly a lower dot pitch, that I looks bad compared to an arcade mon. I told you it sounds backwards! Mame has to do tricks to get it to look like an arcade mon, it has to add in scanlines, because your mon is higher res and lower dot pitch, and things like that.
