the actuator is the little hour glass shaped piece toward the bottom of the stick. to change its orientation you have to remove the metal circle at the very bottom tip of the stick. this can sometimes be a little tricky. i usually take a small flat head screwdriver and relax the tension from the joystick spring while prying the ring off. then you simply flip the actuator and put the little ring on again. that is if the little ring didn't end up flying halfway across the room. i have had to hunt for that damn thing more than once. with time and practice you may be able to do this quickly... i don't think i would have the patience. try playing pacman with it in eightway mode. it isn't as bad as you might think.
