: I am looking at hooking up a PSX in my cab. A post
: below mentions lopping off a certain cable for use,
: but the thing is that the wires are not color
: coded, thus using a multimeter to find which wire
: goes to which pin. I really do not know anything
: about this instrument, nor do I want to read a book
: on how it works. I just want to know how I go about
: using it for the task I mentioned above. Is there a
: certain cheap brand or local place I could pick one
: up? Again I will just be using it to make sure I have
: the correct wire to pin. Any suggestions or how-to?
: Thanks

yeah, just get the cheapest thing you can find. If you live in the states go to radio shack. If not find an electronics parts store.

Then get a diagram of the connector with the pins numbered to use as a reference, the multimeter, and some masking tape. Chop off one end of the cable and strip 1/4" off the ends of all the leads and attach masking tape to them 1/4" below the strip (so you can number the wires). Set the meter in resistence mode, connect one lead to pin one on your connector and start trying all the stripped ends with the other lead. When you get to the right one the resistence will drop to 0, label that wire and move on to pin 2, etc. Something to do while you're running a mame audit. =)
