Multiple serial connections?

Ok, so here's my question... Can I make a serial y connection to my computer and have my mouse and happ trackball both plugged into the computer at the same time? I know if it will work, I won't be able to use them both at the same time, but I don't want to. I just want them both to be able to use the serial port so I don't have to re-boot when I swap my panels.
What do ya think?

p.s. all I have to do is wire up my controls and I'm done with my 4 player panel with 2 rotary sticks and trackball/spinner panel with two spinners. :) I should finish this week, after which I'll give Saint a write-up so he can post it for everyone to check out. Stay tuned..:)
