: : 1) Do the USB gamepads keep their controller
: : numbers, or are they randomly assigned every
: : time you restart your Mac?

: I think they keep their assignments, but I've been playing with USB for only a week or so. It seems with my USB card "first" controller to be plugged in is Controller 1 and the second is Controller 2.

: : 2) Can you have 3 or more USB GamePads? I'd like
: : to have more than two and use the 3rd one
: : for extra buttons like CoinA/B, Start1/2, etc.

: Theoretically, you can have as many as ports you have. And you can do LOTS with a hub. Specifically: MAME supports up to eight controllers. I think the InputSprocket software supports eight controllers, too.

Thanks for the answers. I've now setup MacMAME with three Gravis GamePad Pro USB and a USB trackball. They all work well together, and the controllers stay at the same place after powering the Mac off and on. I think these GamePads are going to work great as the interface for a cabinet.
