I don't have a wico trackball but here is the general info on what you need to do.

Each axis in the mouse has a pair of light emitters (LEDs) and a pair of light detectors (phototransistors). On most mice each pair is combined into a single 3 lead component, with the emitter pair on one side of the opticle wheel and
the detector pair on the other.

The trackball has the same layout, it's just larger.

The emitters just need power to operate, so supplying 5V to the trackball connector will take care of that half of the equation.

The detectors are the fun part.
What I do is remove the detectors from the mouse, and run 3 wires (per axis) to the detectors on the trackball. Each axis has a common wire, and 2 data wires. The trackball on the other hand just has the 2 data wires coming through the harness, and they are usually buffered through a schmitt trigger so you'll have to open up the trackball assembly and run 3 wires directly to the detector.

I'm sure this isn't the only way to do it, but it works.

Here is the wico trackball, for reference:

I also have simplified writeup of the Mouse-Happ hack on my webpage, which has some pictures of the mousehack that may be usefull.

Good luck & let me know how it works out.
