I would get a large roll of tracing paper, lean it down on it's side, and outline the pattern. Place the pattern on a sheet of thin but stiff cardboard and cut out the areas where you want the paint to be (if you can't find a sheet large enough, tape two together). The best tool to use would be an airbrush, you can get them at hobby stores. A simple (and cheaper) method would be a can of spray paint. Make sure you either paint outside, or cover everything around the area. The mist off the paint spray can make a nasty mess. Especially with enamel.
