Whats the best dos memory manager to use?!

I am running dos 6.22 and arcadeos on my arcade pc.
I load himem.sys but not emm386 because emm386 seems to slow down mame considerably. My framerate drops in half.
However, I do need more conventional memory and am loading quite a few device drivers. I need to load those drivers into high memory. I tried using 386max and the latest patch for it and mame seems to crash alot. Is the older dos version of QEMM any better? What is the best to use?
