I never could find a 1/16" bit either.... I ended up using an abrasive cutting wheel that mounts on a drill. It doesn't cut real fast and you have to hold it REAL steady but it got the job done. And they are only a few bucks.

: I want to use a 1/16" straight bit, but again, I can't find one. I've looked at home depot and the hardware store. Nobody seems to have that size. I'm wondering if they only go down to 1/8" for the straight bits. Do you know where I could get a 1/16" straight bit? I'll deffinately go that way if I can find one!

: Let me know....

: : Brian,

: : Yeah, the slotting cutters are not cheap :-( .....but if you are going to do the way you mentioned I would suggest you find a 1/16" straight bit. If you use the bigger size then the slot will be to big and the only way you will get the molding to stay in is if you glue it (I can see this getting messy and probably not as neat.) With the 1/16" slot the molding needs to be pounded in (preferrably with a rubber mallet) and the ribbed part will prevent it from coming out.

: : : I have a router, but I couldn't find the 1/16" slot cutting bit anywhere around here. I did find it at some of the sites that were mentioned in some threads below, but it would cost me $30 just for a router bit! I'd like to avoid that if I can since I'm not planning on using the slot cutter more than once or twice. If I was going to use it a lot, then maybe I'd buy it. Anyway, like i said, I've got a router and 1/8" straight bit that I'm going to use. I'm going to build a jig up from scrap wood that will fasten to the bottom of the router and also have two boards that go on each side of the board that I'm cutting. This will provide a nice guide when I'm cutting. It should work ok, but like Andy mentioned before, I'm going to practice, practice, practice, before I ruin a nice panel. Also do make sure you wear safety glasses like Andy suggested. I've been working on my new panel and I've been wearing safety glasses while routering and I've STILL gotten a little dust in my eyes, so I can imagine how bad it would've been if I hadn't been wearing them. Also another little tip. Wear ear plugs. :) I tried routering for just a little bit without them and I almost went deaf. Those things are really loud! So that's it. Like I said, I haven't cut my grooves yet, but I'm almost ready..as soon as i make my jig. I'll let you know how it goes when I'm done. Good luck!

: : : : Whats the proper way to cut an even groove in wood for T-molding to fit in?

: : : : I am very new and I don't know what to do here, like what tool to use and how to get a flush fit.

: : : : Can someone give me some advice?

: : : : Thanks
