: The supposed 'correct' method is to use a router.
Not supposed...it IS the correct (and safe) method :-)
However if you have access to a circular saw with a variable height blade you could do it quite easily. You would need a model with a ripping guide, or some way of ensuring you have an accurate offset of the blade to ensure you rip the groove straight down the middle of you panel edges.
: I'm lucky enough to own a good quality saw bench that has a fence on it - I set my blade height to about 1/2", put the fence at the correct setting and cut away. The slot ends up approx 1/8" wide and holds the t-moulding in perfectly.
This might not be bad with short straigt pieces but if you have a big pieces like in a cabinet (he did not mention what he is building) or if you have pieces with curves then it is an unacceptable method. I might also add that if you are unexperienced with power tools it can also be potentially dangerous.

Hmmm...now that I have just read this all over before posting I notice that you said a circular saw.
ummm...I would warn against EVER trying this! Very dangerous.!!
I thought that you had said 'table saw' which would not be so bad.
BTW: I would also reccommend wearing safety glassed when using a router.
