That may be the case, however, I still don't see any reason why this wouldn't be a great way to play Terminator 2. ACT Labs says on their development page that "if it uses a joystick, it is easy to implement support for our gun." I believe that T2 does have joystick support, so...

: Great idea except, T2 (and Crossbow etc..) do not use light
: to figure out where the gun is pointed. They have potentiometers
: at the base of the gun to determine where the gun is pointed.
: There are games that DO actually use light (flashes on the screen)
: but I don't know if Mame supports any of them yet.

:
: : I recently sent the following e-mail to ACT Labs, maker of a light gun system for the PC. Here's a URL to their gun page: http://www.act-labs.com/gszone/
: : Just think of it! You could use it as is, or it seems like it would be possible to hack the guts and use it in a different casing, perhaps a real Terminator 2 or Operation Wolf gun! I hope that the MAME developers will go for this, because it would be grand!

: : "Hey I just wanted to let you know that I think it would be in your best
: : interests to try to get your gun supported in arcade emulators,
: : especially MAME. MAME has recently emulated light gun arcade games,
: : among them the Terminator 2 arcade game. If it was announced that your
: : gun would work in MAME, there are literally thousands of people who
: : would buy one on the spot. I know I would! Many of the people who use
: : MAME are working adults who have plenty of money, not some poor little
: : quake playing gamer kids! I'll bet that if you would send the MAME
: : developers some development kits, they would be willing to implement
: : support for your gun.

: : Here's the response I receieved!

: : Let's do it Mark. We're a smaller gaming controller company for the
: : intermediate to advanced gamer. ACT LABS is 100% devoted to supporting the
: : gaming community so count us as game for this.

: : MAME games are defintitely enjoyable throwbacks to the days of old ;) We are
: : open to supporting the scene and I hope the contact you mentioned can assist
: : us in distributing the developer info.

: : Thanks!
