I had a Pit Fighter --> MK2 converted metal control panel that looked like Swiss Cheese. I pulled off the last reminants of the overlay, removed the metal panel from the wood, and took it to a local metal shop.

They "melted" a metal powder to fill in the holes, then polished the spots smooth. Finally, they punched in the new pattern I gave them. The results are unbelievable -- especially if you are going to paint and/or overlay the finished product. And it shouldn't be too expensive -- maybe $30? $40?

I believe the technique is referred to as Powder Metallurgy(?).

Good luck!

: A little more info about robotron panels

: : : Is pretty much trashed for Robotron :( The joy stick holders are swiss cheese, the holes for most of the joystick screws are gone, these two factors make it basically unusable for restoration (using real robotron sticks anyway). If this was a complete machine and not just a CP, I'd find a better CP and restore the cab, but since it's not I have no idea, it's a crappy as a SF CP, and I bought it for parts anyway...
