Wingman warrior - mouse spinner?

I recently purchased a wingman warrior only to find out that the spinner doesn't use the mouse for it's spinner. SO I decided to FORCE it to use the mouse for the spinner. I bought a cheap mouse (9.99 at Radio Shack), taped the small circuit board inside the joystick, and soldered the wires coming from the small board that the spinner used to the decoder on the mouse. Being that the wires were already there for the serial port, I disconnected them from the joystick and connected them to the mouse circuit board. (I had to use a continuity checker to find out which four wires went where). Believe it or not, this worked!

I noticed that (for the mouse part) the original setup used the same pins on the DB-9 connector as the mouse, + 1. (The 'extra' wire is a brown wire on the inside of the joystick.) I wonder, if we cut this wire, (this may be the wire that interferes with the spinner BEING a mouse) will it work without modification? I am seriously considering buying another one to try this.

Bob
