You can *lower* the sensitivity by breaking off spokes and reducing settings.

The problem is with the *maximum* sensitivity. When MAME and the mouse is set at the most sensitive settings, the controls begins to jitter when you spin it even moderately fast. It's definitely unusable if you flick the knob.

Spinning it faster (with gears) just makes mouse-driven MAME games jitter worse.

: The original Taito Spinners had a gear on it. You can use gears to change the sensitivity to what every you want it to be.

:
: : MAME uses both, and the relationship of the two settings is NOT obvious. In general the mouse driver settings and the MAME dial sensitivity multiply on each other. However, even when both are maxed out, one revolution won't send a Vaus across the screen (unless you max out the acceleration settings). The multiplying effect of the two settings causes undesirable effects...in short, a low MAME setting and high mouse driver setting is best.

: : : A lot of mouse drivers allow adjusting the rate
: : : of movement. Does MAME use the mouse driver or
: : : use its own?

: : : : Twistygrip spinners are gutted plug-n-play mice that are mounted in a nice housing. Their knobs are directly connected to the mouse lightchopper. Open your mouse, take the ball out and turn that black rod (lightchopper) one revolution. Voila. That's how far your Vaus will move. Some world champions (e.g. Krogman) will have a lot of trouble trying to get 3 million. He's about to try a special 2X test unit...if that doesn't fly, then the only solution is for the MAME programmers to up the max. sensitivity from 256 to 512.
