I'm tinkering with the idea of converting a cocktail cab at the moment, and as a lot of people know space is at a premium in those things.
What I'd thought of was to raise the legs on the cab and add a shallow drawer to the bottom of it, which will contain the PC. This would enable simple maintenance to be carried out - just slide the drawer out and everything is laid out right in front of you. If you used a socket 7 setup instead of slot 1 of socket 370 the drawer would probably only need to be about 2" high. The only thing I haven't considered is what to do about a power supply. Those things are pretty big.
Your proposed project sounds like a great idea waiting to built into a coffee table. Extending that a bit further, how about a 'purpose built' coffee table. With a bit of lateral thinking, the sky is the limit!!
