: HI,
: I appreciate your help with my posts about the 27" monitor. Since I do want to play PC games and N64 on it too, I guess I will have to use a different monitor. But I am not sure what to get? and where to get it? I am in Canada. Can you possible help or recommend what to do? What would the quality be of tv out?

: Thanks
: Jim

: : This monitor for $175 is a VGA monitor, meaning you can plug it straight into your video card and it will run easily. For my purpose, it is strictly a MAME monitor and will do nothing other than run MAME. If you want to do things besides this like play PC games and surf, I would recommend you find something else, it won't go past 640x480.

: : Hope that helps,

: : : Ok, umm that tech stuff was a little fuzzy to me. I am newbie..eheh I appreciate your help. So what your saying is that a CRT is no good for what I want? a CRT is a real arcade monitor? what is the one for $175? how does it match up. I want to run windows etc on it also, but I want it to be easily connected and not worry about it blowing. So whats the best way to go for me? pleae tell me in lamers terms.

: : : Thanks
: : : Jim

: : : : Yes, you can. It's a standard VGA monitor.

: : : : trouble is what your asking. Anything that can handle higher resolutions, will actually look worse on lower resolution arcade games. This has been descussed here with many image comparisons. Take a look.

: : : : I think these are a good compromise. They probably wont look as good as a CRT rgb output... but then you cant run any windows (and have to worry about blowing the CRT by sending it standard VGA output)... Next might be S-Video out or the grade C VGA (since they have rounded pixels and low resolutions with scanlines built in). Last is a vga monitor....

: : : : : Its fairly cheap on $175? Dam good price but can I play PC games on it etc..without a problem? The big thing I have is that, and of course how the hell do u connect it to a PC? Any places in Canada selling this?

: : : : : Thanks

: : : : : : : Hi,
: : : : : : : I was wondering if anyone could help. I am making a cabinet where I want to play Mame, Raine, Genesis, SNES, PSX, PC games, N64 and others on. But I need a monitor that can play a variety of systems. I am a student though, so cost is a big issue. I can hold I think a 27" my cab width is 26.5" so I think a 27 will fit because its meausured on the diagnal right? anyway I have thought of a tv but i heard its not good, i have thought of a monitor but they are expensive and i thought of a monitor but i heard the resolutions arent high enough like 600X400. Anyways I guess i would like some recommendations, maybe some links, prices and reasoning, to help me make my decision. Any help is great! Email if u wish.

: : : : : : I got mine here... 640x480 @60 Hz and 32 bit. Dimensions are posted in some threads below, it should fit just right though. BTW, mine looks really good, worth the money IMHO.

Just keep checking out places like Ebay and such. I just got a 19" computer monitor for $160 and since I lived close to the seller I was able to pick it up and not pay the $20 shipping. But that still would have only been $180 which ain't to bad for this very nice monitor.
