: I'd go with an snes pad hack if I was you, since there's 10 buttons (the start and Select count)+ the d-pad. Ghosting and masking would probably be a problem with a keyboard hack, even with 2 joys and 4 buttons on the joystick port.

: : Just got my cab (Combatribes that was converted from a
: : Xenophobe) and now I'm ready for a new control panel.

: : Here are the components I want on the CP:
: : - 4 joysticks
: : - 2 players with 6 buttons, 2 with 3 buttons(18 total)
: : - 1 coin and 1 start button each (8 total)
: : - Trackball
: : - Spinner

: : I'll use the keyboard hack for the usual buttons
: : (coin, start, any others?) and the serial port for the
: : trackball and spinner. What about the joysticks and
: : their buttons? Would the SNES hack be a good plan for
: : that (via parallel port)? Use of combination of
: : keyboard and gameport? I want to be able to use the
: : joysticks in pair for games like Karate Champ, etc.
: : So keep that in mind too.

: : One more question. Where do I get a JAMMA fingerboard?

: : Thanks,
: : -Nefarious

I used the snes pads to hack. It is the superpad controllers
made by Interact (funcoland for $5.00 ea.) I did not like the nintendo's pad contacts,
Interact contacts are much easier to solder to.
2 joysticks 8 buttons each (2 are for flippers). It plugs right into the
parallel port. With a couple of jumpers from off of the printer cable
and you you can have 2 more players with 8 buttons each,
for a total of 4 joysticks 8 buttons and 48 input controls.
With the powerramp hack, I've got more inputs then I need, and
no ghosting.
