I do a lot of audio/music stuff in my spare time and have accumulated a ton of audio gear. Some of it I never really find a use for and just sits around, and I think to myself "well, I'll find a use for that someday" so I never get rid of any of it.

One of those useless items was a dual volume pedal. You know, it's the kind of thing that you could plug a guitar into one side and a keyboard into the other and each of the two pedals would control the volume of one of the things you plugged into it. I have had this thing for ten years and never used it. Well I got the idea last night to turn it into a gas/break pedal for my cabinet. I busted the thing open to find that one of the pedals turned a pot (50k ohms) and the other was attached to a fader (also 50k ohms). I did a little rewiring, and mounted a 1/4" stereo jack to the front of my cabinet. I wired the three prongs from the stereo jack to the appropriate pins on a joystick cable and pluged the cable into the computer. I also mounted springs to the back of each pedal so they snap back when you pull your foot off of them.

So now, whenever I play driving games, I just connect a 1/4" stereo splitter cord (the kind you would use on an audio mixer's insert jack) from the pedals into the 1/4" jack on front of my cabinet, and viola! instant driving controls!

I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner. Now I need to get my steering wheel set up! Control panel number 7...here we come.
