You mean an older build of Mame could support a newer NeoGeo game with the proper "fix file"? Wouldn't Mame need to be recompiled to recognize a new game? Please elaborate. If this is possible, my problems are solved, and you are my hero :)

As for the difference between Console and Arcade NeoGeo, here are some:

1.) Console sports games don't have an arbitrary timer. Like in the baseball games, you play the nine innings wether it takes 10 minutes or 10 hours. Most time limits are removed so you can play at your own pace.

2.) Console versions offer more settings to play with inside the game itself (without going to the BIOS) such as difficulty, number of lives etc.

3.) Console versions give you a set number of credits, making it more challenging. You can only continue so many times. With the arcade version you can finish the whole game just by pumping more and more virtual coins in.

4.) Often times actual game features and extras are left out of the Arcade version to speed things along.

: : : The NeoRageX Emulator is wonderful for NeoGeo emulation, but does anyone know if there is any way to load games for it straight from the command line without using the GUI so I can use my front-end to invoke the game directly?

: Mame (I use Mame32 0.37 b14, or MameLang32+ 0.37 b15) can run all Neo-Geo games. It's just a matter of applying the proper fixfiles so that they can be used this way. (Fortunately, all the ROMs I ordered on my CD-R collection were already fixed and ready to go in Mame!...)

:
: : : And on a related note, what do you all use for NeoGeo emulation? I want something that allows overclocking and also lets you set the games to console rather than arcade. So far I have to use "KBMame" but as it is not updated anymore some of the more newly emulated games won't work (wah!)

: I never really knew or cared much about the differences between home and arcade systems, so I'm afraid I can't help you... Sorry
