If you are using mamew change the resolution line in mame.ini from auto to 640x480 or add
-resolution 640x480 to your command line. You might also want to experiment with hwstretch and scanline settings. check out the readme.txt included in the mamew zip. You may have poor results trying to play vertical games if you have mounted this monitor horizontaly. Vector games will not look very good at such a low resolution either.
