: The happ trackwheels are $110 each. The Twistygrip spinners are don't cost near as much money, but they take a lot of work to complete. And, the outcome is going to rely heavily on your construction skills. How's this for a middle-ground alternative...

I've been rigging up a spinner for nearly a week and have come to the conclusion that hacking a mouse and following the TwistyGrip plans is the way to go. The plans are extremely detailed and easy to follow. (They should know what they are doing, They used to sell them.)

As far as quality goes, I think if you have the ability to build a controller or full cabinet you should have no problem with the TwistyGrip. It is, however, really time consuming to do it right.

: Take a Happ Optical Rotary Joystick ($40), cut the shaft down, lock the axes somehow, and mount a spinner on the cut shaft! Seems like for a little more than $50 you could have a high-quality spinner, without too much work involved. Has anyone tried this yet?

I think you still need the power supply and the mouse conversion adaptor from Happs to make this work. I'm not sure on this one.
