Well, I got a 20" Sony triniton for $160 + $40 shipping on eBay. Granted, the case had some stickers and scuff marks on it, but it was exactly what I needed.

I was originally looking for a 25-inch TV, but I couldn't find any decent ones in my area with s-video (which you should have). The cheapest one I could find had to be shipped, which would have put the cost at around $285.

I'm happy I went with a monitor. The filering options in advanceMAME and the new MAMEW are pretty nice and will hopefully get better. I also have a Dreamcast hooked up and polygonal games like Soul Calibur and Cannon Spike look awesome.

Some people have had excellent results with video card that has s-video out connected to TV with s-video capability. Check out some posts further down for more info and screenshots.
