DOS under Windows should be fine.
The drivers load in windows and are carried over into DOS.
It is under pure DOS that audio drivers to onboard and PCI audio cards get shakey/broken.

This should work if the onboard can be fully disabled.
I have seen onboards that conflict even though they are set in the 'disabled' mode, but that was 2 or 3 years ago.
