I bought 1/4"x1.5" (dunno the thread pitch, doesn't _really_ matter since they're getting fastened with identically threaded nuts) stainless steel c. bolts (nice and smooth) for my Super 8's, and ran my 1/4" drill bit through the 6mm holes to size them. I still have roughly about 3/4" of bolt available after mounting them in my 1/2" CP.
I don't think I did any damage to the joystick like making it weaker or anything - all that came out of the drill bit was a long thin strand of plastic.
