Your processor is the problem. Consider going to HIVE or retrocade if you want to keep your computer. Both of these emulators are designed for slower computers. Hive runs galaxian on a 386 btw.
If you are going to upgrade. Consider going to a decent duron or low end athlon. You will find other reasons or games you will want later. And the price difference between low end computers and ancient ones aren't that big of a deal
go to www.pricewatch.com and go for barebones processor with board
