Exactly, GadgetMan! Some of us like to run Impact, or N64 games, and the occasional PC 3-D game (although the mouse/keyboard still feels the best for those). If I only wanted to run Mame I wouldn't waste money on my GeForce2 Deluxe card.

Which makes me wonder, is there a Direct-X optimized version of Mame that might move some of the burden off the main CPU to improve performance?

: It has to do with the TV-out chipsets used by each card. If you're not using TV-out to a Television in your cab, it doesn't apply to you.

: Another thing, is a lot of people here are looking for a more rounded setup than just a MAME configuration too. The video card discussions really apply to them because most are using the Cab for PC games, a lot of which are 3D games, and High Level Emulation like N64 emulation.

: If all you want to run are MAME games, An old Diamond stealth card (ISA) would probably be sufficient. I do it with a Jaton 4 meg card (Trident PCI) on one of my machines, and I have 3 laptops running MAME, one of them is a Toshiba Libretto 50CT, but it doesn't run much else.

: : I've been trying to figure out why everyone keeps boasting about thier video cards... I have an ATI 128 in my mame cab but a much nicer card in my main computer. Trust me - I definately tried the better video card in the mame box and I didn't see any better performance. Plus - all that 3D processing power is wasted in there since I'm not going to be trying quake on my cab any time soon :)
