There are 2 different types of Mortal Kombat boards. The standard board, which came with version 1.0 - 4.0 and then the T-Unit board, which came with version 5.0. I believe NBA Jam and the other Midway games run on the T-Unit board (or an enhanced version of the T-Unit board). Using a slow processor (Celeron 400 in my case), try an early version of MK out and then run version 5.0 of MK... you'll see a speed difference.
