That 900 should not be a problem.
Im running DAMP on an AMD K6-2 500 and it does fine.
Check the sound settings for your sound card. You may be overdriving the mixer. All my driver settings have the volumes at 50%, and I let external amplification go from there.
Cant help you with ArcadeOS though. Im running AdvanceM***
