Happ rotary joystick & MDF boardl thickness

Hi

Im thinking of using two happ optical rotary joysticks with my cp but Im not sure if can use those with a wood cp.

Ive decided on using MDF for my cabinet but im not sure hot thick MDF boards to buy. Im thinking of 12 mm or 16mm. Would 12mm be to thin??
