: First, I'd like to mention that I just found out about MAME last week and just love it.

i think you need to explore MAME for a few more weeks, and read this message board frequently, and make use of all it's resources and links before you try to make too many decisions.

1) i would go with the 27" screen

2) AOS beeps to let you know it has the frequency set correctly for your monitor

3) to run the most games, you need the fastest processor. aparently due to the way the emulator is written, the graphics subsystem doesn't matter too much, so max out the CPU.

4) the way to change happs super from 8-way to 4-way is to remove the retainig clip, turn the actuator over, and replace the clip. if you're going to do this on a regular basis, be sure to have extra clips on hand :-)

5) i like the idea of swapable sub-panels. that way you can have an open area in the middle of the panel that you could insert a 4-way, a trackball, or a spinner. i think maybe you would be happy with 2 changable control panels. one for 4 player games, and one for other games...

6) you can redefine buttons in mame globally or for specific games.

8) spinners and trackballs are mandatory. if you haven't been bitten by the 80's bug yet, you will be... :-0
