the manufacturer probably buys just OEM drivers. i've never seen specs. for drivers that specify the orientation, so you are probably ok.
if your cabinet is sealed tight, you will alter it's performance (compared to having it in a room). it may be better or worse, and the only real way to tell is by trying it out.
but if your cabinet can breath easily, you probably won't notice any difference.
