Hi John,

For the number of inputs you require it would probably be easier(and maybe cheaper) to hack a 6 or 8 button gamepad.

Your main consideration would then be with your Frontend and/or OS, as to whether they recognise the gamepad with a minimum of hassle. Just make sure you use a Frontend that allows you to remap its function keys (such as ArcadeOS) as this should negate the need for a keyboard. If you are making a mini cab then you can always wire up a keyboard port so you can plug one in for maintenance.....

: I was palnning on making a Mini MAME Cab to Just Play Classics. Like Ms PAcman, Mr. DO!, Galaga type games. The control panel would only have a few buttons mapped. 1 & 2 Palyer start the arrow keys and 2 fire buttons. Could I just solder right to the inputs without any ghosting for a setup like this or do I have to trace out the matrix and all of that for such a simple hack? Also where do I get the ground in a setup like this? I have used KE24 and Ipac in the past never did a keyboard hack. Also If this is too difficult I was thinking about hacking a game pad. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

: Thanks,

: John
