I guess it depends on the make of the particular sub, but for the most part I don't think it will make a lot of difference.

The sub will be inside a somewhat small confined airspace so it won't have to work as hard to move the air like it would in a regular open environment. The sub will pretty much turn the entire inside of your cabinet into a larger speaker box.

You might need to adjust the level or the phase (if applicable) to get the perfect sound.

You could also mount it so the woofer is firing against a side wall as it would fire against the floor for roughly the same effect.

If you're using a sub from a PC speaker vs. a bigass Velodyne home theater speaker or something you should be able to put it just about anywhere in there.

And now a moment of silence for my poor home theater sub which finally gave it's tenuous grip on life away this weekend :(

: For those of you with subwoofers inside your cabinet...Is it okay to put a sub that's marketed as standing vertically in there on its side? The specs say nothing about it being downfiring, though I'm still shaky on this. If the subwoofer is shown being used vertically, can I lay it on its side and get the same effect?

: Thanks,

: Brad
