err, 2 IPAC questions.

I've got 2 controllers. Each has dual HAPP Super 8ways + 8 buttons (Ultimates) + a player start button.

Each controller has an IPAC in it, and I use the USB interface as it gets annoying to keep hooking up the keyboard to the end controller.

Technically I can get away with only one IPAC total as any game that has dual joysticks only needs a max of 4 buttons. I could run a switch to either ground out (thereby enabling) my second stick, or 4 buttons. Then I'd only be using 12 inputs per box. (one 8 way + 8 buttons = 12, or 2 8 ways + 4 buttons = 12).

If you choose to use USB connector in the IPAC, you cannot daisy chain them together. You can only daisy chain them when going the ps2 route.

My first suggestion is to have at least 6 buttons per player. My second is that you can't go wrong with the IPAC.

If you go with a single 8way + 4 buttons per controller, one IPAC will be enough to hook 2 of these together as that's only 8 inputs each (not including start, which the IPAC supports 2 start buttons and 2 coin buttons).

check out my mame setup http://go.to/jarr_d. I'd be happy to answer any more questions that you may have.

Also, the IPAC uses no drivers. It is a keyboard encoder and will be recognized by your system as such. It simply sends the appropriate keystroke when you push a button.

: You guys will never know how happy I am that I found this site. Now that I've read as much as I can I wanted to check with you guys to make sure I'm not missing anything. My goal is to have 2 joysticks with 2 separate boxes housing each. I'm going to install a Happ's Super 4-way/8-way, 4 Ultimate pushbuttons (the inward curved ones), and 1 momentary button in each case. I am not too confident about wiring things myself so I've decided to get an IPAC interface and install both joysticks into my USB port. I have a few questions that I'm sure many of you have already answered but I couldn't find definitive answers to them here so I figure I'll ask.

: 1. With two separate boxes for each joystick I'll probably have to put an IPAC in each box, does anyone foresee any problems with plugging 2 IPACS into 1 USB port? I don't really want to daisy chain them but I don't have much choice do I? I believe there is also a cable length maximum to contend with as well, correct?

: 2. I am hoping that these joysticks will be used for many of today's games and not just MAME and such, is that possible with the right drivers?

: I realize that these questions are too general (and probably dumb and repetitive) but I'm just afraid that this is going to be over my head.

: thanks in advance
